Objective

To provide funding support to local organisations or enterprises for conducting research and application of innovation and technology with the objectives of enhancing commuting convenience, enhancing efficiency of the road network or road space, and improving driving safety.

Details

Funding Scope
The Fund aims to provide support for enterprises or organisations to conduct research and application on vehicle-related Innovation and Technology (I&T) with at least one of the following objectives:

  • Enhancing convenience of motorists;
  • Enhancing efficiency of the road network or road space; and 
  • Improving driving safety.

The vehicle-related I&T projects to be funded should be in line with the relevant Government’s policies, including the Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong or Smart Mobility Roadmap for Hong Kong for promoting smart mobility in Hong Kong.

Funding Amount and Duration

  • The funding ceiling for the two types of projects are set out below:
    Research and Application Project: HKD20,000,000 per project
    Pure Research Project: HKD8,000,000 per project
  • The applicants shall contribute a certain percentage of the project cost as follows:
    Public Sector: At least 10% of the project cost
    Corporate Sector: At least 50% of the project cost
  • The duration of the project should normally not exceed 24 months. 
Eligibility and Requirement

Public Sector

  • The following R&D Centres: 
    (i) Automotive Platforms and Application Systems R&D Centre;
    (ii) Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute;
    (iii) Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel;
    (iv) Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre; and
    (v) Nano and Advanced Materials Institute.
  • Local Universities funded by University Grants Committee (UGC) and Government-established University
  • Institutions in List 1 of the Designated Local Research Institutions designated by the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology in accordance with Section 19 of Schedule 45 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap. 112) except Local Universities funded by UGC, Government-established University and R&D Centres
  • Non-profit or charitable professional bodies, trade associations and non-government organisations

Corporate Sector

  • Companies
  • Institutions, professional bodies, trade associations and non-government organisations not covered by public sector
Application Procedure
  • Smart Traffic Fund is open for application all year round.
  • Applicants shall send the completed application form together with the required supporting documents to the Secretariat by email (stf_sec@hkpc.org).
